Processing times

We have currently suspended processing copy certificates issued before 2008, due to an issue with our registers vault.

Any orders received will be refunded which will take about 20 working days.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Delivery times vary based on the date the original certificate was issued.

• Certificates issued 2008 onwards, can take up to 20 days.
• Certificates issued before 2008:  you can get a copy certificate by visiting the General Register Office web page

Make an order

We need to be able to find the original registration before we can make a copy. Make sure you are able to give us the relevant information.

You can order a copy of:

• birth certificates
• death certificates
• marriage or civil partnership certificates

There is a different process for ordering adoption, citizenship, naturalisation and gender recognition certificates.

How much it costs

Certificates cost £11 each, plus £3 (recorded delivery of up to 5 certificates). 

If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place outside of Croydon

You must contact the local authority in which the event occurred or apply for a certificate – GOV.UK.

If you are applying from outside Britain

You can only order from the General Register Office – GOV.UK

If the event took place before 1 July 1837
