Reuse and recycling centres

Household recycling centres are open with new site restrictions. Make sure you read the new rules before you plan your visit.

Household recycling centres are extremely busy, so you may have a long wait if you visit. Our free bulky waste collection service is also running, so it may be easier to use this to manage your waste instead.

New site restrictions

In line with government guidance, more vehicles will now be allowed on the sites at any one time. The number of bays will be increased to reflect the changes in social distancing guidance. However, staff will still not be able to assist residents with larger items.

New site restrictions will help keep residents and staff safe whilst on site. Visitors must follow social distancing rules and signs have been installed to remind them to keep a minimum of one metre distance between themselves and other customers and site staff. Visitors must be able to carry their items, as social distancing means staff will not be able to help them.

Site staff will have enhanced cleaning regimes throughout the day, including wiping down handrails. You may wish to bring gloves and hand sanitiser for yourself. You should wash your hands thoroughly before and after visiting the site.

Essential visits only

Only visit our sites if it is absolutely essential, and limit visits to once a day. Only take what cannot be safely stored at home and no alternative disposal option is available.

Only one person will be allowed to exit each vehicle, unless two people are required to move large or bulky items safely, with only one person on the gantries at any one time.

Our recycling, rubbish, garden waste and bulky waste collection services are all running, so please try to use these to manage your waste instead.

Pedestrians can now access the Factory Lane and Fishers Farm sites – but not Purley Oaks at the moment.

Self-isolating restrictions

Anyone self-isolating because of Coronavirus symptoms or those in the shielded patients list should not visit the sites.

New waste type restrictions

Our sites are now accepting a full range of materials for recycling, as well as the following:

  • household waste in black bags
  • garden waste
  • small electrical goods
  • small bulky waste items

Please sort your waste into these groups before leaving home to reduce the amount of time spent on site.

Residents who can continue to safely store excess waste at home should continue to do so until the situation returns to normal. If you have large, unwanted items to dispose of, use our bulky waste collection service which offers residents two free bulky waste collections and one free large white goods collection every year.

See this page for details of what can and cant be recycled

Vehicle access and restrictions

Cars can be used at all sites during their opening times.

Vans and cars with trailers can be used at the Factory Lane site, but only on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 2pm.

Only one person should exit each vehicle to ensure social distancing can be maintained. Cars should reverse park into bays.

Vehicle permits must be displayed and will be checked prior to entry, which may lead to longer queues. If you do not have a vehicle permit, you must bring documents that prove your identity and address

Additional traffic management will be in place on Factory Lane and Purley Oaks, Brighton Road to manage queues.
