Advertising local events in Croydon

How to advertise an event on a Croydon road or in a Croydon park.

We will consider applications to advertise local events on roads or parks managed by Croydon Council, for example craft fairs, fetes, school events, community events or events that have links to or promote the borough of Croydon. The conditions and locations for advertising are set out below.

If you wish to advertise your event on privately owned land you must seek permission from the land owner.

If an application is declined, for example due to other organisations already using a location, we are happy to work with you to look at alternatives as we wish to support local events where possible.

There is no charge for applying. Each application is considered on its own merits, the granting of permission or refusal on any occasion does not affect other applications.

The council will not permit individual businesses to advertise their products or services on public land (funfairs and circuses have certain exemptions).

Any advertisements displayed without our permission, or in breach of the conditions stated in this document, may be removed without notice.

Conditions

The following conditions must be adhered to – failure to ensure continued compliance with these conditions may result in permission being withdrawn without notice or future applications being declined:

  • maximum size, 2m (width) x 1m (height)
  • all advertisements must be taken down within 7 days following the end of the event
  • all advertisements must be securely attached using robust cable ties; it will be the responsibility of the organiser to ensure the advertisements remains securely tied for the duration they are displayed; any that are observed to be loose or at risk of falling off (for example hanging by one cable tie) will be removed immediately
  • pedestrian crossings – if a location is a crossing then the advertisements must be placed as far away from the crossing as possible
  • locations outside Croydon’s boundary require consent from the relevant borough’s planning department
  • locations not managed by Croydon council require permission from the owner of the land
  • signs attached to highway railings must have no sharp edges or corners protruding
  • they must not be attached to traffic lights or street lighting columns
  • signs must be placed so as to ensure maximum visibility for pedestrians and drivers, if deemed hazardous will be removed immediately
  • if railings are removed at any time then the location ceases
  • the list of locations and conditions may be revised at any time
