Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (Furloughed workers) 

If your business cannot afford to cover staff costs due to coronavirus, you may be able to access support to continue paying wages to avoid redundancies.

Advice for the self-employed 

The Self-employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) will support self-employed individuals (including members of partnerships) whose income has been negatively impacted by COVID-19.

HMRC will contact you directly if you’re eligible to apply. You can also check the eligible criteria on the Business Support website.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) also has up-to-date information on details of the government support package.

Impact on food businesses

The food team will not be undertaking re-score visits. The team will only be conducting critical and essential visits where there is the greatest risk to public health.

The London Growth Hub – resources to help your business 

London Growth Hub is is a free resource available to all Croydon businesses that provides help with finance, moving into a new sector, trading online and finding a workspace.

You can book an appointment to talk to one of their business advisors who will help you find the right support for your business.

Bounce Back Loans scheme

The government’s Bounce Back Loans scheme is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses to borrow between £2,000 and £50,000.

Croydon Enterprise Loan Fund (CELF)

Croydon-based businesses may be eligible for business support from CELF. Contact the team for a telephone or video appointment.

Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme

For small and medium-sized businesses, the new Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme is now available for applicants.

Covid Corporate Financing Facility

The Covid Corporate Financing Facility scheme is a cost-effective way to raise working capital for companies experiencing severe disruption to cashflows. 

Coast to Capital – providing access to specialist funding 

Coast to Capital advisers are on hand to provide information and support and to signpost businesses to specialist financial advice.


Croydon based organisations can register for free access to GRANTfinder, which has details of suitable funding opportunities and business advice services.

Mayor of London emergency support fund 

The Mayor of London has pledged £1 million to a new emergency support fund to help London’s community and voluntary organisations affected by the impact of the coronavirus. Full details to be published next week at London Funders.

Helpful resources and services for local business support

British Library business support for London SMEs

London-based SMEs, with proven sales and plans for growth, can apply for customised support from business experts through the Innovating for Growth scheme from the British Library. Applications close Wednesday 10 June.

Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI)

CTSI has produced a series of coronavirus bulletins to help businesses during the current pandemic. These bulletins provide clear guidance for travel and tour operators, food businesses and the housing and home improvement sector.

All CTSI bulletins are available to download for free on the Business Companion website.

Croydon Works 

Check Croydon’s job and training hub, which offers a free recruitment service for Croydon residents and employers.

Online resources

Tutti has produced a list of free resources, such as free virtual courses and support for live streaming.

Business support for freelancers in the creative industry

The Creative Industries Federation is offering free 6 month membership to support all creative freelancers and micro-businesses (those with 10 employees or less).

The British Chambers of Commerce have advice on how the Chambers and members can minimise the impact on local communities, along with details for how you can contact your local Chamber.
