Group citizenship ceremonies are not currently taking place under national lockdown guidance. We offer individual virtual citizenship ceremonies. If you are in receipt of an invitation letter from the Home Office please email email@example.com and we will schedule an appointment over the coming weeks.
Please note that if you have received a letter from the Home Office confirming that your application for citizenship has been successful you will still need to wait until you have received a Home Office invitation advising you that you may book your ceremony. Once you have received your invitation letter, please wait 5 working days before booking your ceremony.
You would normally be expected to book your citizenship ceremony within 3 months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to Coronavirus, UKVI have extended this period to 6 months. Please be advised that no adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by Coronavirus.
Attending a ceremony
Once your application for British citizenship is approved by the Home Office you will be invited to attend a citizenship ceremony. This is the final step on the journey to becoming a British citizen.
Full details of citizenship ceremonies are available on the Home Office website. You must attend a citizenship ceremony if you are over 18 years old and living in the UK.
Children under 18 years old don't have to attend a ceremony but are encouraged to.
When and where Croydon ceremonies are held
Croydon holds public group ceremonies on weekday evenings and occasionally Saturdays.
Ceremonies are held at The Town Hall, Fell Road, Croydon, CR0 1NX.
Due to the government restrictions on number of people who can attend a ceremony, we have to limit the number of attendants and this unfortunately means we cannot accommodate guests during group ceremonies. However, you may be accompanied by a maximum of 2 guests for a private ceremony.
What you should bring to the ceremony
- your original invitation letter from the Home Office
- your passport or photo ID
During the ceremony
- you’ll swear or affirm an oath of allegiance to the Crown and make a pledge to uphold UK values and laws
- you’ll be presented with a certificate of British citizenship
- professional photographs will be taken and will be available to purchase
If you would prefer to make a booking for a private citizenship ceremony you can do this by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note there is a fee for this service.
