Emergency support

You can apply to the discretionary support fund if you live in Croydon and are in financial hardship and need emergency support.

Croydon discretionary support

You will need to have applied for a Budgeting Loan before an application to the Croydon discretionary support fund can be considered. 

You can apply to the Croydon discretionary support fund if you are in financial hardship and need help with emergency living expenses, including:

  • food bank vouchers
  • fuel (gas and electric if you pay via a key meter)

All applications will be considered on an individual basis. We usually only make 1 award every 12 months. We do not issue cash payments. 

What is not covered

The Croydon discretionary fund cannot be used to pay for:

  • day to day living costs by means of a cash payment into your bank account
  • washing machines, microwaves, televisions and furniture
  • fuel bills paid directly to utility companies
  • essential goods
  • rent in advance
  • removals
  • travel expenses

Eligibility

To be considered:

  • you must have lived in Croydon for at least 3 months or are moving into Croydon from certain institutions
  • you must be over 16 years of age

You must also receive, or be due to receive, at least one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • any disability benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Universal credit
